Memphis Nights....An Australian artist.....Irish background.....American name! Confused? It get's worse.
I started off in this city (Melbourne) and fled to the country for "The peaceful life". The deal was to hibernate for a decade or so, and it was here in my little van in the high country that I wrote and recorded on cheap cassettes.
About 350 songs later the quiet life went loud.
"The Swamp Cats" were a band of the worse kind....We made Spinal Tap look professional. The truth is we only got together so we could get back into the bars that had banned us. We were a 4 piece swamp rock/blues band that definately weren't in the business of bringing sexy back!
Most places only wanted covers, so we had to sneak in our originals. (along with other banned itams)
After a few years burnin' every smokey backhouse, outhouse and roadhouse, some guy in a suit gave me my nickname (which I hated) and convince me to head back to the big smoke.
As with all nicknames - the more ya fight it - the more it sticks! But it eventually grew on me. So here I am!
A soloist on Bass....Blues voice, working with drum and bass/techno samples....half country - half city. A guy who had to escape the country BACK to the city to try and get me some peace!
Now I play with, mingle with and associate with the underbelly misfits of the city! The lost, confused and morrally bankrupt!
For some reason they're the only thing that feels normal to me. Maybe I might be one of them!
